“You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something NEW” – Brian Tracey
This quote can mean a lot of different things to different people. It can be about working out and how you have to push yourself to see results or about quitting your comfortable job in order to challenge yourself more.
For me though it means something else.
Growing up I was a very shy person. Always thinking about what other people would think of me. Always dreaming about the things that I wanted to do but never having the confidence to do it.
Until one day I reached a point in my life where I thought: something has to change. So what if people don’t like me or disagree with what I do. I can do whatever I want to do, it’s my life. I don’t want to be old and look back on my life thinking “I wish I`d done that” or “what if”.
That’s when my life changed. It wasn’t easy. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be so hard but I realized this is something I have to do to live the life I want.
I started with doing the things I wanted to do. One of those things was doing something all by myself. For me going somewhere alone, and not having your friends or family with you, scared me a lot.
Being all alone makes you vulnerable. At least that’s what I thought. I thought people would look at me and think “she`s all alone that’s so sad”. Going through with this even though it made me super nervous helped me grow so much. After a couple of times you stop thinking about it and it just becomes normal. I never would have thought that it would make such a big difference to how I live my life now. Stop caring for what other people think. Life is too short!
That’s also when I found my love for extreme sports. I feel like they challenge you the most. One day I decided to try out wake-boarding and I just enjoyed that rush of adrenaline so much, I never stopped wake-boarding after that. I made a bunch of friends with the same interests and soon I fell in love with snowboarding as well. It is such an amazing feeling when I`m out there on my board. Just me, my board and the water (or snow). That feeling of freedom is just indescribable.
Stepping out of my comfort zone is something I do daily now and I love it! It makes me feel so grateful and good afterwards. Sometimes it can be a little intimidating trying a new trick with wake-boarding/snowboarding but I do it anyway and I just love that rush of adrenaline you get and you just feel alive!
Now I try to inspire people with what I do. I like to bring my camera and GoPro with me on adventures or while wake-boarding and snowboarding and share those pictures on my Instagram. Showing everyone how fun life can be if you just do whatever you want! I truly believe that’s the most important thing in life.
Stop worrying, be thankful for what you have and enjoy life!
